away messages and grandma

My grandma is funny, she will IM me occasionally and she responds to my away messages. Here are two great examples:

ALKeswick: Tommy, I heard you have been out in the real world. How is it going?GK
Mr Willoby [auto-reply]: in the shower… naked…
ALKeswick: See you Sunday and hope you have some clothes on.

ALKeswick: Just got on. Thought I would see how the ski trip went and if you are working most days.
G.K
Mr Willoby [auto-reply]: left here looking for girls that glow in the dark
ALKeswick: Be careful! GK

new things

I had a fun time last night. I met a new friend. We went to a fabric store where I was exposed to faux fur that would make quite the awesome duvet cover, though I still am partial to my cow print.

We also ended up in a bookstore. I wanted to buy a new journal. I am sort of tired of the spiral notebook I’ve been writing in since I was a freshman in high school. The way I’ve written in it makes it tedious to continue which dissuades me from making entries on a regular basis. And I figure, it’s a new year, why not start a new one where I won’t feel obligated to conform to the technique that I previously used?

I also go some new CDs. That always makes me feel good. They were ones on my never-ending list of “to buy” CDs. I got Wilco’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and the self-titled Social Distortion album. They were hard to resist at $9.99 each. Plus we had been talking about music at dinner and I asked which Social D album to get and she suggested that one.

Iris

I was teaching freshman English today and had to read some Greek mythology with the class. I read something about Iris being the goddess of the rainbow and thought, how cool, no wonder the colorful part of an eye is called the iris. I had totally forgotten about the colorful flower named the same thing also.

At least I had one observation after reading it five times.

cleaning up

It is literally what I am doing today; my room is horrendous. But I think it’s what I should start doing in general. Get my things in order, find a grad school to go to if it’s not too late, and just get with the program. Cleaning my room today will hopefully involve installing my new DVD burner, that’ll be fun. I’m also working on putting together a few more webpages for this site.
