that’s what I get

I forgot to bring a book to work today. It was awful. At least 3 out of the 6 periods I had to be actively involved with the kids. I read the entire Mercury News, except the Sports section because I just plain don’t care. There wasn’t much to the newspaper today, I even read all the crap about the Academy Awards. The Tech Monday section mostly was talking about how to be ergonomically correct while using a handheld device. Booooring….. I did enjoy the front page article about Tom Campbell though.

I don’t think I’ll get to read tomorrow because I’m teaching elementary school PE.

What to do with the rest of my evening now? I’m frustrated with fiddling with Linux because even the simplest things are a pain in the ass. Changing the refresh rate of my monitor for instance and getting a resolution I want. My monitor is a little temperamental I think, but still, I have to edit a configuration file and basically guess and check every refresh rate at a resolution I want. It wasn’t flickery in Windows, and it’s not flickery at 1792×1344 resolution, but that is way too small, even for me on a 21″ monitor. I may try a fresh install with some different options, maybe put on KDE and get Enlightenment on there later. I’m still going with Gentoo for now, but I am thinking about Peanut again.

I resent the way you make me like myself

I stopped the thought before its drip became insistent
I rubbed it out and loved the spot where it was missing

You can’t stop the Cretins from hoppin’

I’ve had quite the weekend. Drove up to Antioch on Friday, hung out with two different friends. Got home around 1:30am, then Jessica came over and watched High Fidelity. I love that movie. We were up until about 7:30 listening to music while she read my Reason magazines. Tons of fun.

After sleeping until 2:30 on Saturday I called Kirsten and she went to the mall with me. I was looking for a new jacket but I think it’s almost springtime so the selection sucked. We went to Chili’s for dinner and because Kirsten kicks ass she spotted a table in the corner of the bar area right away and we didn’t have to wait an hour like everyone else there. I’m sure we were done and out the door before people who showed up at the same time as us had even been seated. We then proceeded to watch a DVD worth of Will & Grace episodes.

And then I slept in until 1:30 today. I did not intend to, but it happened. My only goal for today has been to do my laundry. I’ve got 2 out of 3 loads done. I’ll feel accomplished today.

there are no words to Chopin

With a week off I haven’t had much to observe and think about. It’s been kind of a blah week. I just don’t have much to say. Sorry to anyone who comes here looking for something.

Here they come…

I wonder if everyone who tries to do a Linux install has to try a bunch of times like I do. I really have no idea what I’m doing. The documentation seems pretty good, but if I have a question about some setting in a configuration file I don’t want to wait for an answer in forum so I guess. I think I break stuff when I do that. It’s all a learning experience I suppose.

I picked Gentoo Linux to use because I like how it sounds like it’s easy to keep software updated. We’ll see how it all goes.

So, I had a birthday.

So, I had a birthday. It was pretty low-key, but I’m not complaining. Marjan and Aimee took me out to dinner at a Thai place. The sign in the bathroom was highly amusing. I understand it is a cultural thing, I mean, I am the one who looked up toilets on Wikipedia the other day, but imagining footprints on a toilet seat still makes me laugh inside.

And last night I watched a movie called The City of Lost Children. It was very strange and in French. The coloring was very unique. Most of the movie was almost in sepia tones, but there were other colors that when they were seen, stood out vibrantly. I will have to watch it again to try and understand everything in it.
