Always Love

I went to see Nada Surf on Thursday night at the Fillmore. Drove Jessica and Judah up there. We had a great time. Ate some Thai food across the street beforehand and got there early enough to be in the second row of people from the stage. Quite close and good for taking photos with our snuck in cameras. I ended up taking 260, but only posted 30 or so of them.

I like the Fillmore because you get cool posters after the show.

Spamity spam spam

I just found it amusing that in my Spam box on Gmail there was a Picasa newsletter. Picasa is owned by Google. Does this mean they might be spreading themselves too thin? I hope not. I still think they put out great products for free.

web presence pays off

I got home from work today and there was an email in my inbox titled “Tweedy tix” and so I read it straight away. A certain “Mike” emailed me about having two tickets to Jeff Tweedy tonight that he wanted to get rid of. I called him right away. He only wanted face value for them! How could I say no? He also happened to be passing through San Jose on his way home so I met him within the half hour and got the tickets. It was for real!

I asked him how he found me. The email was to me directly and not through some site where I had posted.

It turns out that when searching on Google for “Jeff Tweedy Fillmore” the first result is the Upcoming listing for the show. Now I had posted a comment on that listing begging for tickets from anyone, as well as posting on a number of other sites. But since my profile on the Upcoming site has a link to my website, he clicked there. It just so happens that I uploaded a “Contacts” page just yesterday that has my email address in it. It worked like a charm.

Having a web presence rules.

The Giver

I read an article in the January issue of Reason that highlighted some trends in Young Adult literature.  The Giver by Lois Lowry was one of the books showcased.  I just finished reading it today.  I had started it a week or two ago but plowed through the last half of it at work today.  The story really grabbed me.  I’m a sucker for anything that bashes governmental entities.  It was also refreshing to see a kid of 12 or 13 in the novel discover the evil of others making choices for him.  I hope the kids who read this book grasp the concept.
