web presence pays off

I got home from work today and there was an email in my inbox titled “Tweedy tix” and so I read it straight away. A certain “Mike” emailed me about having two tickets to Jeff Tweedy tonight that he wanted to get rid of. I called him right away. He only wanted face value for them! How could I say no? He also happened to be passing through San Jose on his way home so I met him within the half hour and got the tickets. It was for real!

I asked him how he found me. The email was to me directly and not through some site where I had posted.

It turns out that when searching on Google for “Jeff Tweedy Fillmore” the first result is the Upcoming listing for the show. Now I had posted a comment on that listing begging for tickets from anyone, as well as posting on a number of other sites. But since my profile on the Upcoming site has a link to my website, he clicked there. It just so happens that I uploaded a “Contacts” page just yesterday that has my email address in it. It worked like a charm.

Having a web presence rules.
